Title: Adam
Medium: linoleum block print
Size: 25" x 19"In most traditional art, one sees Adam and Eve very passive when expelled from the Garden of Eden, the eviction from their home. In my work, both Adam and Eve are swept up in the terror of the moment and even become tangled in the vine that bore the fruit of their betrayal.

Title: Miriam
Medium: linoleum block print
Size: 25" x 19"Miriam took a leadership role in all she did from the first encounter with Pharoah’s daughter, Bat Ya, to her essential assistance in helping her brothers Moses and Aaron cross the desert with their people. The vine stock in the lower left side of the work represents the law with its three branches, exemplified by Moses, Aaron and Miriam, the grapes being the righteous souls of each generation. Dancing, holding her timbrels, we can imagine Miriam leading the women and children after her. Her cup would hold the endless supply of water that sustained her people for the forty years of wandering they were to endure.

Title: Moses and Joshua
When Moses learns of his impending death, he is instructed by God to meet with Joshua, his second in command in the tent of meeting. It is here that Moses relates to Joshua THE TORAH or THE FIVE BOOKS OF MOSES.

Title: Abraham and Isaac
Medium: linoleum block print
Size: 25" x 25"Abraham, the father of Judaism and first to profess monotheism, is holding his son Isaac in one hand, leading him up to the mount for sacrifice. In the other hand Abraham holds the tie that will bind the child. Isaac, oblivious to his destiny, is happily playing with a ball. In the upper corner the ram’s horn signifies the animal that will ultimately be sacrificed instead of the child. The story can be understood as the beginning of patriarchy, the awareness of child as gift from God, the end of human sacrifice and as a test of Abraham’s soul.

Title: Dinah
Medium: linoleum block print
Size: 25" x 19"When Dinah, Jacob’s daughter, goes out to see the other young women in Sechem, she is spotted by the prince of the region. Some versions of the story claim that Dinah falls in love with the prince and remains in Sechem. Other versions say she was raped by the prince. In either case Dinah’s brothers are determined to revenge her honor and through nefarious means kill all the men in the city. In this work, Dinah is shown behind bars, refusing to leave the palace unless she is married, thereby removing her shame.

Title: Eve
Medium: linoleum block print
Size: 25" x 19"Here we see Eve, being swept up in the moment of expulsion. Her hair is twisted and tangled by the serpent that betrayed her and the vine that possibly carried a pomegranate rather than an apple that she tasted.

Title: Jonah
Medium: linoleum block print
Size: 25" x 25"God ordered Jonah to preach at the city of Nineveh. Jonah did not want to go and sailed for Tarshish instead. When a big storm arises the sailors believe that Jonah is to blame. They throw him overboard hoping the storm will end, which it does. Jonah is miraculously saved by being swallowed by a large fish, probably a whale, which later vomits him out.

Title: Jacob and Esau
Medium: linoleum block print
Size: 25" x 19"Jacob and Esau were rivals even in their mother Rebekah’s womb. In this print Jacob is attempting to hold back Esau from being born first so he may claim the right of the first born to receive his father Abraham’s blessing. We see here, from the expression on Jacob’s face, that he knows he is doing something wrong.

Title: Moses
Medium: linoleum block print
Size: 25" x 19"When Moses doubted the word of God, God in his anger instructed Moses to bang his staff three times on the ground. Moses did as he was told and his staff was turned into a snake. Here Moses is astonished and frightened by the awesome power he just witnessed.

Title: Yachoved
Medium: Linoleum block print
Size: 25" x 25"Moses’s mother is wistfully and sadly saying good-bye to her child as she watches him float away in his basket of reeds. Her back is highly rounded and bent, emphasizing the burden of her sorrow. She feels she will never see her child again.
